Recently, TDP'ers have witnessed resurgence in flaming among forumers.

Urban Dictionary defines flame wars as a heated argument between individuals (or posters), that results in those involved posting personal attacks on each other during or instead of debating the topic at hand.

A flame is defined by Wikipedia as "a HOSTILE and INSULTING INTERACTION between internet users", or in the case of TDP, between posters.

Flaming may either be intentional (some people were just born to be one), or unintentional (posters who simply get emotionally carried away with the debate).

Flame-baiting is a post intended to trigger a flame or a violent response, an intentional act of directly attacking the persona of a poster and luring or taunting into unnecessary debate.

While flaming may sometimes be unintentional, flame-baiting is definitely intentional.

1. Flames are usually not constructive and does not clarify a discussion.
2. Flamers attempt to assert their authority, or establish a position of superiority.
3. Flamers neither accept nor respect opinions of other posters; believes he or she carries the only valid opinion.
4. Go for personal attacks on those who disagree; may eventually resort to foul language and name-calling once ‘cornered’, in which case they can be called “trolls”.
5. In extreme cases, flamers wish to assert themselves even to the moderators or even the administrators and question their authority to police the forums (I personally have seen one moderator resign here due to what I call ‘flame-pressure’ (not peer-pressure).

Whether these flames warrant a thorough revamp of moderating guidelines is not the intended purpose of this thread, but rather to 'hopefully enlighten' forumers who may either be wittingly or unwittingly (no pun intended) participating in Flame Wars, or knowingly or unknowingly participating in one.

This thread was done for the love of TDP. The resurgence of FLAMERS, imho, is simply affecting attendance here.

Flamebaits are not always intentional. For example, Leandro, Your post is totally flamebait.

You're not baiting intentionally but your post is just begging to be flamed. Why? Because it would be ironically humorous if a post on flamebaiting unintentionally flamebaits flamers to flame.

(And no, I'm not flaming. I'm teasing. It's different, heh. :p)

Specifically, religion threads? Okay sana yung talakayan nila dun, pero once hindi na sila nag-aagree sa subject matter dahil sa kaibahan ng mga pananaw, nagsisimula nang lumitaw ang mga no-brainer na salita.

rogie, actually, in totality, TDP houses some of the most tamed forumers. well, dahil na rin siguro sa rules natin dito. but once you get out of TDP and find another forums site, kitang kita ang kaibahan ng mga TDP'ers sa ibang forumers.

yung flame wars dito, magmumukang child's play sa ibang forums...

From my POV, TDP had always been a 'mellow' site. Medyo tolerated nga dito ang mga pasaway. But recently, parang dumadami na naman ang flamers. I've been on lurk-mode for many months now, parang walang pinagbago, same folks same flames. IMO lang.

sa ibang forums nga yung flame wars nagiging personalan na...umaabot na pati sa paghack ng mga accounts..

Now, even if flame-baiting here in TDP may be considered mellow, but the intention is still the same.

flame wars sometimes help a lot. first, the personality of a poster is exposed. second, more often than not, a new perspective to the issue is being brought up. it's just a matter of appreciating the flame wars.

Ayos lang naman yung mga karamihan ng nakikita kong flames dito. May ine-extract pa rin naman sila sa utak nila kahit papano, nagkaka-personalan nga lang. Yun ang masamang part. Mas ayaw ko pa sa mga spammer at thread chatter. Akala mo nasa chat room.
