If ever this thing will happen, I guess he'd give time for us to recover first before pulling out these outsourced job. I'm always amazed by our race's ingeniousness. I know somehow, we'll all find a way to make everything ok. Call center might not be a stable job but hey, let's face it, it's really been a big help to us right? So let's just hope Obama will not pull out these outsourcing companies. Cause one way or another these companies had been a tremendous help to this ailing country.

why are the jobs outsourced in the Philippines, in the first place? it's because workforce is cheaper here compared to america and the work quality is just the same, sometimes, even better. now, taking back those jobs to america would mean that the investors will have to spend more on workforce which means less revenue which means the economy will continue to suffer which means doom of the world. why? because US economy's worth is equal to the top 2,3 and 4 richest economies combined. so pray tell me, why would he insist on doing that?

I have been working in the call center industry for many years now. I have seen all the types of investments they have made. Believe me if I tell you that the amount of investment they made is so obscene that one can actually treat it as a GDP of a 3rd world country. Obama might create a policy about outsourcing by limiting it and giving priorities to the American people. On the business side, investors knows that they earn much in outsourcing specially here in the Philippines. I guess they would probably play their numbers by giving jobs there and here. Obama now won and declared as the 44th President of US. We will just have to wait and see on how he can navigate US to be a country of economic domination.

even though Obama is against outsourcing, he can't control what companies have planned out in order to survive.. he may impose laws on limiting the companies to outsource, but entirely stopping it.. I don't think so..

let us remind ourselves that "outsourcing" is not exclusive for call centers. although its the first thing that will come into mind when it comes to the word "outsourced"
its for practically in almost every industry. manufacturing, electronics, chemical, you name it.
everything that is being "outsourced" by american companies to other country are affected. and if you look at it on that perspective, you will see why it will be difficult.

nanalo na si obama. Does this mean tapos na ba ang reign ng call center as the great provider of jobs? Parang wala pa rin namang nangyayari ah.

kawawa nman kami. sa kangkungan kami pupulutin or magtitinda na lang kami ng kangkong. it,s true na madaming pumapasok sa call center dahil madaling pasukan. mas mataas ang sweldo pero hindi stable ang trabaho. hindi mo alam malulusaw na pla account mo at kailangan mo na namang i-update ang resume mo. sana lng ngayong panalo na xa ay hwag nyang tanggalin ang outsourcing sa pinas. please help me pray for this.

i doubt obama will win... people think he'll win but there are a lot of people here in america are still not ready to have a 'colored' man as their leader... outsourcing may be important, but that may not be the case here... he has to win first and then we'll see what happens...

good guess....

well d tayo dapat ma worried about those issues. anything that will benefit the country d yan tatanggalin ng isang presidente. believe me, if they can make those illegals to be legal para lang magka pera ang isang state gagawin nila yan.

Senator wants disclosure on outsourced calls
Source: Yahoo

NEW YORK (Reuters) – In a bid to reduce outsourcing of U.S. jobs, a Democratic senator said on Sunday he will push legislation to make companies inform customers when their calls were being transferred outside the United States and charge companies for those transferred calls.

"This bill will not only serve to maintain call center jobs currently in the United States, but also provide a reason for companies that have already outsourced jobs to bring them back," Senator Charles Schumer said in statement.

Customers calling 800 numbers are often transferred overseas, and in such cases the bill would mandate that callers be told where their calls were rerouted.

Companies would also be required to certify to the Federal Trade Commission annually that they were complying with the requirement, and face penalties if they did not certify.

Schumer's bill would also impose a $0.25 excise tax on any customer service call placed inside the United States which is transferred to an agent in a foreign location. The fee would be assessed on the company that transferred the call.

Customer service call centers have become increasingly popular with businesses in recent years to deal with questions ranging from billing to technical support.

But the practice brings frequent complaints from customers who say their issues are not resolved or that representatives are merely providing scripted responses.

Schumer said the most popular countries for outsourcing of U.S. call centers included India, Indonesia, Ireland, the Philippines and South Africa, places where workers generally receive lower wages and work longer hours than their U.S. counterparts.

(Reporting by Chris Michaud, editing by Vicki Allen)

ano say nyo dito? i've read some of the comments in the yahoo article and most people are in favor of it. I, working in a call center is obviously not in favor of it.
